A laboratory is no place to worry about waste. It’s all about precision, safety, and a smooth workflow. When the doors opened in August 2017 to this brand-new facility, every detail had been carefully considered including waste management. Because how do you keep departments clean, calm, and safe when working with chemically contaminated materials? The answer: don’t treat waste logistics as an afterthought. Instead, design it as an integral part of the building from day one.
Stansz was chosen already during the design phase, not as an afterthought, but as an essential part of the infrastructure. The system spans two floors and ensures that laboratory staff don’t lose time transporting waste carts internally or storing waste temporarily in departments.
With loading openings on each floor, laboratory waste is disposed of directly and safely to a central location on the ground floor. The selected container carousel not only offers high storage capacity but also collects chemically contaminated waste in a fully automated way. This keeps waste both out of sight and out of the work zones.
Fewer actions, more peace of mind
The integration of the chute system was carried out by RoosRos Architecten (Oud-Beijerland) and construction company De Vries & Verburg (Stolwijk), in close collaboration with Stansz. The combination of technical expertise, architectural coordination, and smart logistics makes this project a showcase of future-proof building design.
