Discover the value of a Stansz system. Find out how quickly your investment pays off.

In the newly built Leythenrode Care Facility of Alrijne Zorggroep, sustainability plays an important role. One of the most visible steps has been the introduction of a modern waste system, for which Stansz supplied three waste chutes with a sorting installation. The result: more efficient waste separation and cleaner working environments.

Smart technology for efficient waste handling

The centrally located waste chutes have been installed, each equipped with a display and card reader at the intake door. Staff can easily select the right waste stream, from textiles and residents’ clothing to residual waste or PD (plastic and drink packaging). With the push of a button, the bag disappears into the chute and is transported to the central collection area, where the sorting system directs it to the correct container.

Vincent van Leeuwen, Facility Manager at Leythenrode, explains:
“What’s great is that we can see on a screen how full each container is. And if one is full, the system automatically stops that specific waste stream—without pausing the entire process. Very efficient.”

More space and less work on the wards
For staff, the system offers major benefits. Departments no longer need separate waste rooms, and overflowing or leaking bags are a thing of the past. Every two living groups share one intake door, making disposal quick and easy. The logistics team also benefits: waste no longer needs to be collected manually from each department.

More sustainable and cost-effective
The new system also contributes to improved waste separation. By collecting PD separately, the amount of residual waste is reduced. This benefits the environment and results in cost savings for the organization

Collaboration with Stansz
The waste chutes had already been included in the new building’s design. Together with the construction partners and project management, Alrijne selected Stansz as supplier. The collaboration was evaluated positively by all parties, thanks to clear communication and fast service during the start-up phase.

Making healthcare more sustainable in practice
With this project, Leythenrode demonstrates how smart waste logistics can contribute to a more sustainable healthcare environment. Less waste on the work floor, more efficient logistics, and a reduced environmental impact: a strong example of how technology and healthcare reinforce one another on the path to a circular future.
